Abstract

The general objective of the article is to critically analyze how union legitimacy occurs to represent the category of teachers in public Basic Education, in view of the symbolic and power organization, through Pierre Bourdieu’s theory, considering the categories: symbolic power, habitus and field. It was decided to conduct research limited to a certain dialectical linguistic context. The research is bibliographic, with a qualitative approach, based on the works The economy of symbolic exchanges and The symbolic power, both by Bourdieu. Research on Bourdieu’s theories made it possible to clearly see the existing contradictions in the fields of union and state power, stimulating a critical understanding of this reality. In addition, it promoted the creation of knowledge and learning, using Bourdieu’s concepts as a source of research.
