The present work has as its theme the construction of the teacher's professional identity, with the objective of investigating the concept, the characteristics of the teacher's professional identity and the aspects that influence its construction. For this, a bibliographical research was carried out, in which the main conceptions of the researched authors were listed, key concepts were defined and reflections were developed on this premise. The authors selected for this study were selected with a view to achieving the listed objectives. The results pointed to identity as a constant construction, starting before initial training, going through initial training, practice (and reflections on practice), along with continuing training. In addition, it was concluded that there is no “ideal” teacher and no single model of identity. In this way, the teaching professional identity is transformed throughout their training and does not remain stagnant, but adapts to the environment.
