The article presents the results of a study carried out with graduate students in the Education area at a federal public university located in the southern region of Brazil. The research was developed with the purpose of offering subsidies for the elaboration of the self-assessment policy and the strategic planning of the Postgraduate Program in Education at UFFS. More specifically, the study sought to (i) identify the main characteristics of the postgraduates' profile; (ii) know the postgraduates’ perception about the quality, importance, and impact of the course; (iii) analyze the main strengths and weaknesses of the course, and (iv) systematize the improvements suggested by the postgraduates. Data were collected through an online questionnaire. The study showed, among other aspects, that the graduates of the postgraduate program studied are mostly women (82.4%), white (81.1%), aged up to 35 years (60.8%), residing in the State of Santa Catarina (68.9%) and with a professional bond in public institutions (79.7%). The course was considered good and great by most of the graduates. The quality of the teaching staff was mentioned as the main quality of the course. All graduates are employed (93.3%) or taking some course (6.8%). For 82.4%, the course added a lot to their training and professional career. About 81.1% reported that there was a salary increase after completing the course.
