the choice of the teaching profession

The objective of this article is to analyze how personal, academic and professional experiences can influence the choice of teaching profession. The listening exercise of narrated experiences led us to the understanding that teachers' life experiences are present and infer about their professional being. Separating the person fron the professional is impossible. The study was conducted with six History of the state education system in a municipality located in the western region potiguar. With a qualitative approach, we made use of the life story interview. The interviewees’ statements were forged in the light of content analysis. The research results allow us to state that the life experiences and training of the subject teacher are present in their daily school life and infer in the reflective attitude about being a teacher and, when remembered, they become a self-training path through looking at themselves.
